Способность денежной единицы обмениваться на определенное количество товаров и услуг. Чем больше товаров и услуг можно купить, например, на Ј10, тем выше покупательная способность фунта стерлингов. Рост цен (инфляция) вызывает снижение покупательной способности и, следовательно, материального благосостояния среднестатического гражданина (см. Price index). См. «объем товарной массы, которая может быть приобретена на денежную единицу (товарная цена денег)»[1]. Чем ниже цены, тем выше покупательная способность денег, и наоборот. Существует ряд статистических показателей, измеряющих динамику покупательной способности денег: индекс потребительских цен (ИПС), индекс цен производителей, дефлятор ВВП и др. В международных (межстрановых) сравнениях широко применяется показатель ППС, паритет покупательной способности (см.). Существует большой разнобой в оценках и выводах аналитиков, проводящих такие сравнения, это объсняется главным образом разной методологией расчета показателей (в исходную «потребительскую корзину» закладывают разное количествуо и разные виды товаров и услуг в зависимости от условий жизни в той или иной стране.
